Obituary for Surrildia Mae Stacy

Surrildia Mae Stacy, 87 of Maybee, MI, passed away October 28, 2017 at her home. She was born September 13, 1930 in Longbranch, KY to James and Gertrude (Purvis) Francis. Mae married William G. Stacy on July 2, 1953. After raising her own children, she spent many years tending to her grandchildren. Known to her family as the “Queen of Maybee” Mae had been a resident of the town since 1965 and served as grand marshal of the Maybee Day parade in 2010. A talented artist, she enjoyed painting and drawing, especially landscapes and self portraits. She did some of her finest work on junk mail, napkins, and other salvaged scraps of paper. Mae also enjoyed crafting and had a vision for every ordinary empty plastic container or popsicle stick. She especially enjoyed making gifts for all her family members during Christmastime and presenting them dressed as “Mrs. Clause”. Mae frequently held garage sales and spent many hours meticulously organizing her wares. Although she never ventured outside of Maybee, Mae was proud to have obtained her driver’s license at the age of 60. She surprised everyone who knew her when she boarded a plane to Alaska to attend her son’s wedding aboard a cruise. Above all, Mae was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Mae is survived by her 8 children, Anna Gail Zeluff, Rosemary (Ronald) Ford, Madelaine “Sue” (David) Stranyak Jr., Billie Jean (Marvin) Iott, Irvin (Lynnette) Stacy, Gary (Sue) Stacy, Connie (Matthew) Shaw, and Tressa (David) Shaw; 16 Grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren; sister, Nancy Jones; brothers, Alex “Boyd” (Ida Sue) and Kerneal Francis; and brothers in-law, Junior Napier, Robert Ritchie, Enich Singleton, and Andrew Ritchie. Mae was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings, Connie “Zena” Mallory, Lucille Ritchie, Mary “Marie” Napier, Lillie “Cricket” Ritchie, Gertie Fay Singleton, and Opal Ritchie; and son in-laws, Terry Schneider and Alan “Lanny” Zeluff II.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 31 from 2-7 p.m. at the Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E.
