The Hindman Funeral Home was established in 1954 with the merger of the Hornsby & Taul Funeral Home and the Everage & Watts Funeral Home. John Everage, Ruby Watts, Ivan Childers and W.R. Smith were the entities in the partnership. John Everage, the manager, worked hard and tirelessly to make the Hindman Funeral Home a thriving business.

John Everage, the son of Balis and Maggie (Perkins) Everage, was a local boy, born and raised on Montgomery Creek. He was married to Dorothy (Cornett) Everage, the daughter of Neal and Maggie Cornett. These local ties and John's determination made the Hindman Funeral Home a going concern.

Orbin Childers joined the staff of the Hindman Funeral Home in 1958. He was the son of Ivan and Gail Childers, one of the partners. Orbin, better known as "Sweet, obtained his father's interest in the business, and worked alongside John Everage to better serve the people of our area.

Danny Terry came to work for the Hindman Funeral Home as "summer" help in June 1967 while a student at Morehead State University. Danny, the son of Bethel & Arda Lou (Robinson) Terry, knew right away that the funeral services was the profession he wanted to pursue. He planned to finish at Morehead and then mortuary school but after the next year at M.S.U., he enrolled in the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science for the fall term of 1968. He worked at the funeral home on weekends and breaks from school and upon graduation in September 1969, joined the staff of the Hindman Funeral Home full-time,a decision that he has never regretted.

Danny worked alongside his friends, John Everage and Orbin Childers. The three of them together made a good team. Danny purchased the interest of the W.R. Smith family in the business in 1972.

John Everage became ill in 1975 and was forced by his health to retire. Orbin Childers and Danny Terry acquired his interest in the business, which they operated at the old location in the lower end of Hindman.

Seeing the need of a new facility and location where people would have plenty of parking area. Danny and Sweet ventured into a new era. Their aim was to build a new facility that would accomodate several funerals at the same time. They acquired the remaining interests in the Hindman Funeral Home, moved the business to the present location on the Route 160 connector road and incorporated the name "Hindman Funeral Services, Inc."This investment in the future established for the people of this area the most modern and up to date, service oriented location to be found.

In 1990, ill health forced the retirement of Orbin Childers. Danny Terry acquired Orbin's 50% interest in the business and operates it as it is today as sole owner.

Our directors consist of Danny Terry, Jeff Blair, Donnie Salmons, and Mardy Terry, the son of Danny Terry.
